The 2017 Season So Far.

This year has started as the last one finished, with Works Racing engines continuing to dominate the Lansdowne Championships and our customers enjoying success elsewhere too.

The SCC-Works team have attended three events so far: Pembrey and Donington with the Lansdowne Series and the wonderful Tandragee road races in Northern Ireland.

Dean Stimpson has won 6 of the 7 Lansdown BHGP races on his Izzard Racing bike with Glen English taking the other win on his SCC-Works Racing team bike. However, these results don’t show that Dean has been pushed hard for every win, not only by Glen but also Mike Russell on his Richard Adams supported Works-powered bike. The racing has been extremely close most of the time and is sometimes a little too exciting to watch, especially if you happen to own one of the bikes!

Our now annual trip to Tandragee in the beautiful Irish countryside didn’t go quite according to plan, firstly our two star road racers Mark Parrett and John Leigh-Pemberton couldn’t make it this year and then it rained on race day. A little rain might not sound like a big deal but Irish roads are not like other race tracks, riding on them in the dry is a pretty intense experience but racing in the wet with a steamed up visor and spray from the other bikes ruining visibility is quite beyond my powers of description. However, circuit newcomer Dean Stimpson still made his way to the sharp end a was only thwarted when his gear lever came loose on the 4th of 5th laps.

It was a great shame because he was looking very comfortable in second place on his Izzard Racing bike. Keith Clarke put the other Izzard bike on the 500 class podium though, also riding for the first time in Ireland. It cannot be overstated what a wonderful event this is, so thanks to the North Armagh Motor Club for their hospitality. (There is an excellent 3-part documentary currently showing on the BBC IPlayer if you would like to know more about the Irish road scene – search for ‘Road Riders’).

Next stop for the SCC-Works team is Cadwell Park, again with the Lansdown Series.
